I'm Russell, but I prefer "Russ". I was born in 1990 in Exeter, Devon, UK. I live in Cambridge, UK.
My main interest is the internet, but I also love the countryside. I spent some of my childhood in Lincolnshire, UK, and have a fond love of farming.
Before I was a developer, I worked as a warehouse and stock control assistant, and more recently as a retail assistant manager. During those years, I spent my free time studying web technologies and programming, continiously building small proof-of-concepts to prove my newfound abilities.
I began teaching myself PHP in 2005. Since then, I have been fortunate enough to work with several other programming languages such as C#, vb, Javascript and Lua.
I have worked with SQL database systems such as MySql and MSSQL, and more recently I have explored NoSql systems like MongoDB.
You are welcome to email me if you have any queries.
If you are a colleague or partner, I look forward to seeing you on LinkedIn.
In March 2011, I launched FarmSnaps.com, which is a communal photo album based around farming and the countryside. Memebers can create their own albums as well as public albums where anyone can upload to.
The site has a scratch built membership system as well as a comment system, multiple photo upload and a favorites system. This was my first NoSql deployment, which uses MongoDB.
In june 2009 I built and launched LS-UK.info, a portal based around user generated content for Farming Simulator, which turned out to be one of Germany's most popular games ever.
I exploted a gap in the market; an English portal for a German game. The portal was incredebly sucsessful, and in the second year I saw 200% traffic growth in 6 months. As of March 2011, LS-UK has 100,000 registered users.
In 2008 I launched a farming based social network called FarmingConnected. The interaction was based around marking your farm on a global map.
FarmingConnected was my first tried and tested php/mysql deployment, and extensively used AJAX to query the Google Maps API and backend systems. In 2009 I retired FarmingConnected to focus on other projects.
